What’s the best stroller for you?
Lightweight strollers are smaller than regular strollers and are often lighter and more compact. They’re especially useful as a second stroller for travel or to keep as a backup at a relative’s house. Or maybe you just need some extra speed and agility on your trip around town? Buggy is the way to go.
When it's time to buy a stroller, many questions arise: What functions should the stroller have? Is there a stroller with a car seat? When is a child allowed to use a stroller? Is there a stroller for an infant and a toddler? We answer these questions here.
At what point do you need a lightweight stroller?
Children should not sit upright in a stroller until they can hold their heads up independently. Depending on the baby, this can be between six and twelve months of age. Before this happens, you can attach an infant car seat to the stroller to carry your newborn child, so to answer any questions about strollers with car seats: yes, that's absolutely possible, as long as you own a stroller that's travel system ready. This also lets you continue your journey on foot after a car ride without waking your baby up.
When the child grows big enough to sit, they can use a CYBEX stroller up to a weight of around 55 lbs., i.e. until around the age of 4.
Buying a lightweight stroller? This is what you should look out for:
Whether you are traveling or just enjoying time with your baby, a lightweight and compact stroller makes many things easier. You should pay attention to these criteria:
Stroller wheels
The wheels of the stroller should fit your needs. Do you travel a lot on rough terrain? Then large all-terrain wheels are a good choice. If smoothness is important, then look for all-wheel suspension.
Weight and folding size for a lightweight stroller
In your everyday life, the stroller must be easy to transport. Therefore, they should be lightweight and easy to fold. Will the stroller fit in your trunk? Do you travel a lot by plane and train? Then an ultra-compact stroller that you can fold down to hand luggage size is ideal.
Safety: Particularly important for lightweight strollers
Your child's safety should be a top priority when it comes to strollers. You should pay attention to these safety aspects:
- A secure harness system and a bumper bar to keep your child comfortable and secure.
- A reliable brake for sloping terrain.
- Sun canopy: The stroller should have a large canopy with a high sun protection factor, so that your child is protected from direct sunlight.
A lightweight stroller with comfort: For child and parents
Your child isn't the only one that needs to be happy with their stroller. It should also offer maximum comfort for you as a parent, whether you’re pushing it, folding it, or carrying it. That's what really makes a great lightweight stroller:
- Adjustable backrest and legrest, so you can put your child in a reclined position.
- One-hand fold so you can pack your stroller away in no time.
- Sufficient storage space: Whether you’re on an outing or a shopping trip – a storage basket on your stroller is worth its weight in gold.
- Washable cover: When a mishap occurs, it's reassuring to know that you can simply put the cover in the washing machine.
- Individual accessories: You should be able to adapt the stroller to your everyday life with accessories such as a parasol, rain cover, or cup holder.

Rear-facing lightweight strollers
Babies and children want to discover the world. But too much stimulation can quickly overwhelm them, especially when they no longer have eye contact with their parents. In a stroller with a reversible seat unit, both scenarios are possible: facing you, you can give your child confidence and security; facing the direction of travel, he or she can explore their surroundings.
