Problem with the child safety seat: when a child sits in the safety seat and you drive through a curve, it almost tips over. What can I do to prevent this situation?
1.) Generally, the seat cannot offer a 100% stable support at the sides since it is not attached to the seat of the car. Like any other passanger, the child is being pushed to the left or to the right if the direction is changed abruptly. Therefore, you should always drive slowly through curves when there are children in the car. 2.) Pull the lap belt tight as described in the instruction manuals. If the lap belt is too lose, the child, and with it the seat, is not being held down with enough force which can cause instability. 3.) Push the seat forward by a few cm. The seat is now slightly reclined which causes the childs upper body to apply more pressure on the back rest. This increases the friction on the back rest of the car and the child safety seat is being stabilized. If none of this helps, the child safety seat does not perfectly fit into the vehicle. With regard to the safety of the child, the rocking of the seat has no influence on the child as long as the head is leaning against the headrest and the running of the belt is correct Before you decide to pick a different product, you should definitely try it out and put the seat in the car for if the Cybex Solution rocks slightly from side to side in the car, the same problem will occur with products by other manufacturers. |

Child safety seat for big children, what do I have to keep in mind?
We are striving to develop our child safety seats according to the needs of the users and your questions help us to adjust the seats even better.
The ECE directive 44 limits the weight to 36 kg. Like many directives, the ECE44 has its own story. When the norm was first drawn up, dummies had to be developed. The so-called P series dummies (P for Pinnochio since originally wooden dolls were used). These dummies also served as guidline for the weight limit for the approval. Unfortunately, it is not possible to get approval for a seat for more than 36 kg for this is the maximum weight for children that is known to the norm. From a technical point of view, however, it is a different story. The safety seats that are commonly used today and belong to ECE weight category III - from 22 to 36 kg - are a combination of raised seat and backrest. The child is safeguarded by the car's seat belt. The seat belt can easily handle the force that is caused by the weight of a child. The safety seat simply helps to maintain the seat belt in the right position at the child's body so that in case of an accident the forces have the right effect on the child. If a child is heavier than 36 kg, there won't be any problems regarding the stability of the seat since the forces that occur in an accident are mainly absorbed by the seat belt. However, no child safety seat manufacturer can give you a guarantee for the safety of a child heavier than 36 kg for reasons of product liability. If a child's pelvis is already that big that it doesn't fit into the child safety seat (in the case of good seats), the pelvis is usually big enough to ensure a correct position of the seat belt without raised seat. Normally, this is the case at a height of 145 cm to 155 cm. You can check according to the following points:
1.) the lap belt has to be tight across the pelvic bone of the child 2.) the lap belt mustn't cut into the soft part of the stomach 3.) the buckle of seat belt mustn't be on the stomach but it should be at the side of the pelvis 4.) the shoulder belt should be between neck and outer edge of the child's shoulder Often, the geometry of seat belts on the back seat are not optimal, even for adults. In this case it can help to put the child in the passanger seat in the front of the car and put on the seat belt, which often has a better geometry (buckle not in the pelvic area).
We recommend you test the Cybex Solution car safety seat at a specialized store - find a list under www.cybex-online.com. We developed the seat for children up to 150 cm and perhaps it will be big enough for your son for a while. We hope we were able to help you with this information. Should you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. |

Can you also put the CYBEX Solution in the passanger seat?
The Cybex Solution can be used in all seats of the car with a three point emergency locking retractor belt. We recommend to generally use the seat in the back of the car. In the front, there are more dangers for your child in most accidents. For exeptions, however, the seat can be used in the passanger seat as well. Please mind the following:
- if the car has an airbag, put the seat as far back as possible. However, you should pay attention that the upper part of the seat belt stays behind the running of the belt. |
