Infant car seat test 2016: SIRONA M2 I-SIZE
When using the CYBEX Sirona M2 i-size, the child can be transported in a rear-facing position from birth until they reach 105 cm in height (approx. 4 years). The new, intelligent design means that even taller kids have plenty of leg room to sit comfortably. But it doesn‘t take up too much space either – the Sirona M2 i-Size can be easily installed in smaller cars. Additional features such as the one-hand reclining function provide extra convenience and make everyday use easier.
THE SIRONA M2 I-SIZE: SAFETY WITH REAR- AND FORWARD FACING DRIVING
The Sirona M2 i-Size is the frontrunner in a new generation of car seats – it can be used rear-facing from birth up to 105 cm, or forward facing from 76 cm (min. 16 months) up to 105 cm. The 12-position height-adjustable headrest provides extra protection for every age while the integrated L.S.P. system and the energy-absorbing shell help to protect your child against the forces of an impact collision.
REAR-FACING VS FORWARD-FACING
Doctors, accident researchers, as well as consumer and health organization such as Which?, the ADAC and the German independent consumer testing organization Stiftung Warentest all recommend to extend the time that children travel rear-facing to beyond. The risk of injury has been shown to be much lower for children traveling in rear-facing Group 1 the infant car seat. These results have been verified by statistics from countries which primarily use rear-facing seats for older children (i.e. Group 1 seats). This is why we recommend a rear-facing transport for children up to 105 cm (approx.. 4 years).
Unlike adults, the head of a baby is very big and heavy in relation to its body. A baby´s head is equal to 25% of its overall body weight, while the neck and spine muscles are not yet fully developed. They need special protection, particularly in case of an accident. In the event of a collision, the CYBEX Sirona M2 i-Size functions like a protective shield to protect the sensitive neck and vertebra. The force of impact is distributed evenly over the large surface of the backrest meaning the strain on the neck, shoulders, head and internal organs is significantly reduced. This is why a rear-facing car seat helps to reduce the risk of an injury in a frontal collision.
