Aton 3S promises to be a similar success story to its predecessor, the multi-award-winning infant car seat Aton 2, group 0+ test winner in the 6/2012 Stiftung Warentest child car seat test.
New safety features, e.g. the height-adjustable headrest with integrated harness guides, which improve the excellent accident safety of the energy absorbing shell in combination with the crash test proven L.S.P. system even further, and new comfort features, e.g. the huge XXL sun canopy, add up to a perfect infant carrier for premature babies and very small newborns. A new function allows an ideal sitting angle and ensures that small babies lie with their head, neck and chest perfectly aligned. The risk of suffocation by the head falling forward is thereby significantly reduced. The infant car seat can be used belted or with one of our optional bases for easy installation.

The new 8-position headrest with integrated harness guides is another aspect of the infant carrier’s optimal side-impact protection.
The height of the harness adjusts automatically depending on the height of the headrest making the fiddly threading and unthreading of the straps a thing of the past. The Y-harness system has proven to be a very effective and comfortable safety solution particularly for very small babies. The soft seat inlay attached to the headrest can also be used to regulate the height of the baby’s pelvis.
Linear Side-impact Protection
The Linear Side-impact Protection (L.S.P. System) provides extra safety in the event of a side-impact collision.
The Linear Side-impact Protection System (L.S.P. System) systematically absorbs the force of a side-impact collision in a linear series of reactions through the use of the shoulder and head protectors. At the same time, the body’s kinetic energy caused by the impact is absorbed at a very early stage and the head is actively led into a safe position.

The neck muscles and reflexes of premature and very small babies are still underdeveloped and there is a high risk of the head falling forward, which can lead to serious breathing problems and even suffocation.
Working in close collaboration with German doctors and midwives, numerous tests were carried out to determine the ideal sitting angle for infants, while a new function was developed that ensures the flattest possible lying position. The risk of suffocation is thereby significantly reduced. The adjustment mechanism also offers bigger children more space and comfort.

- Aton Base 2 and Aton Base 2-fix
ISOFIX and belted base
Safe and easy installation for great comfort. The infant carrier is clicked directly onto the base, making the buckling-up process of the infant carrier a nuisance of the past.
The belted Aton Base is fixed to the car by means of a quick belt-tensioning device. The height-adjustable prop provides additional stability. Aton Base-fix is secured to the car with its ISOFIX connectors and prop, which offers great safety and stability. Alternatively, the base can be belted to the car seat when used in vehicles that do not have ISOFIX. Both bases are equipped with an indicator confirming the correct installation.

Is this the right seat for my car?
The installation of our products is extensively tested in the latest vehicles. However, we always recommend a test installation at a qualified retailer to confirm individual compatibility. Especially the length of the vehicle belts or ISOFIX (US: LATCH) anchorage points may vary, even during a production run of a car manufacturer.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- May the infant car seat be used on the passenger seat?
The infant car seat may be used on the passenger seat if the airbags are not activated. The use of an infant carrier on vehicle seats with activated air bags pose a high risk of injury and are prohibited by law. CYBEX always recommends using the infant carrier in the back of the car (if possible behind the passenger seat). Statistically, this is the least dangerous seat in the car. In the case of a front impact collision the back seat position offers more collapsible zone and no front airbags that might pose a safety hazard. If you should need to use the car seat on the passenger seat in the front we ask you to adjust the seat as far back as possible.
- May the child be transported facing forward?
No, only infant carriers that are installed facing the rear end of the car can protect the child´s sensitive head effectively during a front impact. The child´s musculature is too weak to handle the forces triggered in an accident.
- Is it ok to leave my child in the infant carrier e.g. at home?
CYBEX infant car seats have been engineered to offer the best possible protection for a baby during a car ride without affecting the child´s spine in a negative way. However, we do not recommend leaving the baby sleeping inside the infant car seat at home for long periods of time.
- With which CYBEX pushchairs can I use the CYBEX infant car seats?
The CYBEX infant car seats have specifically been engineered to be part of a travel system. An adaptor connects the CYBEX Aton with all fully reclining CYBEX pushchairs (Callisto, Topaz, Onyx). The CYBEX infant carriers are also compatible with other brands of strollers, including Bugaboo, Baby Jogger and Mamas & Papas etc.
- What do I do if my baby´s head falls forwards while driving, even though the Aton infant carrier is positioned in the vehicle horizontally as indicated by the marker?
The marker on the side of the infant carrier tells you whether the Aton is installed in the car horizontally. The line of reference used is the road level. If, for example, you have a small car, the angle of the rear seat may slope slightly, thus marginally differing from the level of the road. If the Aton is aligned to the slant of the rear seat, the infant carrier may be positioned in the car incorrectly and the baby´s head may fall forward. This is why it is necessary to align the Aton infant carrier to the level of the road.
- May I use the infant car seat together with the base even when the airbag is activated?
When using a rear-facing restraint system, it is imperative that the front airbag is deactivated. This does not apply to side airbags. However, please ensure you follow the advice and recommendations of your car manufacturer.
- Is it ok to keep using a seat after an accident?
In an accident the plastic parts of the baby seat may sustain damages that are invisible to the eye yet extremely dangerous. Therefore, CYBEX always strongly advises to exchange the car seat if it has been involved in any type of accident.
- Can I use this child seat on an airplane?
No, this seat is not approved for use on an airplane.
