The CYBEX Safety Principles
The most important safety notions
The D.S.F. innovation principle is the core philosophy behind all CYBEX products. It stands for our drive to meet the highest safety standards, whilst implementing a clear and unique design combined with intelligent functionality.
Here we have outlined some of our most important safety principles for you:
Children who are not secured are seven times more likely to be seriously injured or killed in a car accident than secured children. 83 % of secured children remain unharmed in an accident (source: German road Safety organization, information sheet #4, May 2009). The vast majority of accidents – 87 % – are frontal and side-impact collisions (source: BAST – Federal Highway research institute, Booklet F 67, 2007). This is why we recommend to always use a child car seat. Every seat, regardless of the design, ensures a much higher level of safety compared to driving without a child car seat.
CYBEX provides the highest levels of safety for your child. The international team of CYBEX child safety experts draw on decades of experience to ensure continuous safety advances are made. During the product development stage CYBEX employs the D.S.F. innovation principle – combining contemporary design with superior safety, quality and intelligent functionality. Various patents have been developed specifically in the core areas of child safety.
CYBEX products pass hundreds of crash tests every year. And every new crash test leads to immediate improvements and further developments of our products.
CYBEX consistently uses the ISOFIX respectively ISOFIX Connect system as it is an especially easy-to handle system for installing a child car seat into the vehicle, and it also increases stability and safety.
Linear side-impact protection
CYBEX does not recommend booster seats with no backrest, even for older children. When a seat is used with no backrest it offers no side-impact protection for the head and upper body. Therefore, all CYBEX child car seats are equipped with a backrest to offer a Linear Side-impact Protection (L.S.P. system) that systematically absorbs the force of a side-impact collision.
One of the pillars of the CYBEX safety philosophy is to transport children in a rear-facing position for as long as possible, preferably up to approximately 4 years (18 kg). The strong forces of a front impact are distributed widely across the area of the seat’s back, significantly reducing the strain on the neck.
All Group 1 (9 – 18 kg) car seats from CYBEX are equipped with an adjustable impact shield. In case of an accident this acts in a similar way to an inflated airbag. The force of a collision is distributed over the large area of the impact shield and absorbed by its impact-absorbing materials. The sensitive head, neck and chest are protected. Due to the easy installation misuse is virtually impossible.
CYBEX generally fits all rear-facing ISOFIX car seats with a load leg that perfectly absorbs the force of a frontal collision and provides further stability during the journey and significantly reduces the risk of misuse.
For children in Group 1 (9 – 18 kg) CYBEX is moving away from forward-facing seats with a harness system because the strain caused by the impact in a frontal collision, particularly on the sensitive neck area, is considerably greater than with rear-facing seats or forward facing systems with impact shield technology. In these cases the force of the impact is absorbed across a greater area, significantly reducing the strain on the neck, head and chest areas.
Our car seats are tested by independent institutes on a regular basis. We are proud to announce that our child car seats continuously receive top results in the most important European safety and consumer tests such as the German ADAC and Stiftung Warentest.
A matter of trust. We treat child safety with the utmost care and attention. The team at CYBEX works extensively to ensure that all our products offer the highest levels of safety and provide the outstanding quality which you expect for your child.
