The interaction of a clever telescopic Linear Side-impact Protection (L.S.P. System) and a height-adjustable headrest with an integrated harness guide ensures the highest level of safety and comfort. The telescopic Linear Side-impact Protection (L.S.P. System) absorbs the force of a side-impact collision in combination with the energy absorbing shell.
The telescopic Linear Side-impact Protection can be easily and individually adjusted. The very first forces of an accident are transferred by the extended side protector facing the door and are distributed to the car seat's shell. The flexible material and structure of the infant car seat then absorbs the forces of an impact and channels them away from the baby.

One of the biggest challenges for safety engineers is the best possible transportation of premature babies and very small newborns, whose neck muscles and reflexes are not yet well enough developed. Unfortunately, this can lead to the baby's head tipping forward while it sleeps, which can lead to serious breathing problems.
Along with German doctors and midwives, and taking into account the findings of many tests, a function was developed that enables a near flat lying angle between head, neck and chest. The risk of suffocation is thereby significantly reduced. This is achieved through a removable seat insert, which also offers more space and comfort for bigger children once removed.

With the new 8-position height-adjustable headrest with integrated harness guide, the length of the harness changes automatically when the headrest is adjusted. This prevents any need for the difficult threading in and out of the harness and makes it almost impossible to misuse.

In accordance with our safety philosophy, which emphasises ease of use in general and the ISOFIX system in particular, the infant carrier comes with a practical base. The infant carrier can be easily snapped into the base and used without having to additionally secure it with the car seat belt. An indicator confirms that it has been installed correctly. The Base Q-fix is installed in the car with the ISOFIX connectors, providing additional stability and safety. Alternatively it can be secured with the car seat belt in vehicles that do not have the ISOFIX system.

We extensively test the suitability for all our products in all the latest vehicle models. Should your vehicle not appear please contact our customer service team for further assistance. We always recommend that you do a test installation at a qualified retailer to confirm individual compatibility. You should especially check that your vehicle model has ISOFIX anchorage points (US: LATCH ) and the length of the vehicle seat belt as this may vary, even during the same production year of manufacture.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- What’s the difference between the Aton Q and the Aton 4?
The Aton Q is part of the CYBEX PLATINUM line and is a completely new product that incorporates the latest advances in safety technology. The side-impact protection, for example, is telescopic. Together with the height-adjustable headrest and the safety-belt positioner, the Aton Q provides the highest level of safety and comfort. This was confirmed by independent German testing institute Stiftung Warentest who awarded this model the top rating of 1.6 (good) in Test 06/2014.
- Can I also use the Aton Q on any vehicle seat without the base?
Aton Q has universal approval and, with the exception of the driver’s seat, it can be used on all vehicle seats fitted with a three-point safety belt. When installing the Aton Q on the front passenger seat, it is important to ensure that the front airbag has been deactivated.
- Where should my baby’s head be positioned to ensure that the headrest is optimally adjusted to the needs of my child?
To make sure your child has the highest level of safety and comfort, adjust the headrest to a height that is suitable. The headrest has eight height settings and should be set so that no more than the width of two fingers can fit between the child’s shoulders and the bottom of the headrest.
- Do both LSPs have to be pulled out for safety reasons?
To provide the best possible protection, the telescopic L.S.P. protector nearest the door should be extended as far as possible. It is designed with two settings. If in the longest setting, the L.S.P. touches the vehicle door, then the first setting must be used instead. When the seat is installed in the middle seat, the linear side-impact protection (L.S.P. System) should not be pulled out.
- With which CYBEX pushchairs can I use the CYBEX infant car seats?
The CYBEX infant car seats have specifically been engineered to be part of a travel system. An adapter connects the CYBEX Aton with all fully reclining CYBEX pushchairs (Callisto, Topaz, Onyx). The CYBEX infant carriers are also compatible with other brands of strollers, including Bugaboo, Baby Jogger and Mamas & Papas etc.
- Can I use this seat on a flight?
No, this seat is not approved for use on an airplane.
- What should I do if my baby’s head nods forward onto his/her chest even though the markings indicate that the car seat is positioned horizontally?
If the seat is installed with the vehicle belt, the marking on the car seat serves as a guide as to whether the seat has been installed in the car horizontally. The line of reference is the road level. If you own a small car, for example, the angle of the rear seat may be slightly steeper, thus differing from the level of the road. If you align the infant car seat to the rear seat level, the car seat will be positioned in the car incorrectly causing your child’s head to nod forwards. Please ensure, therefore, that the seat is in line with the road level.
- Can I install the seat on the front passenger seat?
The car seat should only be installed on the passenger seat if the front airbag has been deactivated. Important: According to the Highway Code, it is against the law for your child to travel on a seat with an activated airbag. Placing your infant on a passenger seat with an activated airbag puts your child at risk of serious injury. For this reason, CYBEX always recommends installing the car seat on the vehicle’s rear seat (if possible behind the passenger). Statistics show that this is the safest place in the car. In a head-on collision, a child has a greater crumple zone on the rear seat where front airbags do not put your child’s safety at risk. If you have no choice other than to use the front passenger seat, please ensure that the seat is pushed back as far as possible.
- Can my child sit in the car seat in a forward-facing position?
No, according to standard R-129 children have to travel in a rearward-facing position until they are at least 15 months old. Your infant’s spine and neck muscles have not yet developed sufficiently to cope with heavier strains. In the event of an accident, the child’s head is propelled forward with a very high force. The child’s spine and neck muscles are not strong enough to withhold these forces. In rear-facing seats, the infant car seat works like a protective shield and protects the child’s sensitive head and neck.
- Is it ok to leave my child in the infant carrier e.g. at home?
CYBEX infant car seats have been engineered to offer the best possible protection for a baby during a car ride without affecting the child´s spine in a negative way. However, we do not recommend leaving the baby sleeping inside the infant car seat at home for long periods of time.
- What kind of clothing should my child wear when seated in the car seat?
Thick clothing prevents the harness from lying snugly against the body. This incorrect belt positioning could result in the harness slipping off the shoulder. For this reason, your child should wear everyday clothing. Thick clothing such as winter jackets should be avoided where possible. Once your child has been positioned in the seat, he/she can be covered with an extra blanket for warmth.
- How do I know when my child needs to change to a seat in the next group up?
We generally advise against switching from a rear-facing Group 0+ car seat (0-13kg, birth to approx. 18 months) to a forward-facing Group 1 seat (9-18 kg, approx. 9 months to 4 years) or to a combined Group 1/2/3 seat (9-36 kg, approx. 9 months to 12 years) prematurely. Even if your baby's feet protrude outside the car seat or your baby can already sit, your child has not necessarily grown out of the seat. However, if your baby's head is protruding above the top edge of the seat and your baby already weighs over 13kg, it is time to change the seat, as it no longer affords sufficient protection to the vulnerable neck and head area. After changing the seat, your baby’s head should be positioned within the protective area of the height-adjustable headrest of the Group 1 seat, enabling your child to see comfortably over the impact shield and to use the cushion as a play area. If your child disappears behind the impact shield, then he/she is definitely too small for a Group 1 seat.
- Can I use the car seat and base even when the side airbag is activated?
Yes, the side airbag can remain activated when using the car seat.
- Do both side protectors (LSPs) have to be extended?
The L.S.P. Side-impact Protection has to be folded out on the side nearest the car door when the seat is installed either on the right or left-hand side of the rear seat. In this way, the best possible protection is provided in a collision. In this instance, it is important to ensure that only the side protector nearest the door is extended. If the seat is installed in the middle of the rear seat, the Linear Side-impact Protection (L.S.P. system) must not be used under any circumstances.
- Where should the infant’s head be positioned so that the headrest is set to meet the child’s needs?
The headrest should be set so that there is a space of no more than two finger widths between the child’s shoulders and the bottom of the headrest. The headrest can be adjusted to the height of your child using the headrest settings (eleven settings).
- Is it ok to keep using a seat after an accident?
We at CYBEX strongly recommend that you replace a seat after any kind of accident. This is because tiny hairline cracks, which may not be visible to the naked eye, can appear in the plastic parts of a seat after an accident. These cracks can pose an increased risk to safety.
- My car seat is faulty, how can I get it repaired?

- Can I use an i-Size child seat in my car that is equipped with ISOFIX?
i-Size child restraints can be used in any car seat marked with the i-Size symbol; however, older cars may not be ‘i-Size ready’, even if they have ISOFIX points. If this is the case, please check the handbook of your vehicle.
- Can I still use my ECE R44/04 CYBEX child car seat/infant car seat as the new ECE R129 i-Size is valid?
Car seats that comply with the R44 standard are fully valid and can still be used in road traffic without restrictions. The new i-Size norm R129 will run in parallel for a transitional period of several years with the current R44. A planned ban of use of car seats that comply with R44 is not known at the moment. Therefore, there is no need to change your current car seat for a newer model. The CYBEX safety seats all comply with the highest safety standards and legal requirements and can still be used with complete confidence.
- Will the norm ECE R129 i-Size also be valid in the US?
No. There is a very different system of vehicle legislation in the US. This means that the US cannot accept R129 child restraints from Europe (and vice versa).
- Why does the norm ECE R129 i-Size now focus on the size of the child? Why is the age of the child not relevant?
R44 classifies child restraints according to the weight (of the child). R129 child restraints on the other hand, have a size range (as well as a weight limit). This new approach gives more confidence that the child restraint will fit a child over its full range and makes it easier for the parents to choose the correct car seat.
